Fancy a job on GMC’s governing council?
Applications are being invited from doctors for a place on the GMC Council, the regulator’s governing body.
The post begins from 1 January 2025 and council members need to commit to a minimum of three days a month for an annual remuneration of £18,000.
GMC chair Prof Dame Carrie MacEwen said the body was looking for someone who shared its vision of delivering regulation ‘in a compassionate and effective way’. They should also be able to provide challenge to decisions and keep patient safety at the forefront of their minds.
She added: ‘Joining the GMC’s Council at a time of major regulatory reform presents an opportunity to effect long-lasting positive change to the healthcare regulation in the UK.
‘They will also play a vital role in shaping the GMC’s strategic priorities, with particular emphasis on effective and compassionate regulation which supports those we regulate to deliver first-class patient care.’
The council is currently made up of 12 members, six lay and six registrants, who set the GMC’s strategy and goals and oversee the work of the regulator.
