Hospital group to track consultants’ performance

The performance of 6,500 consultants practising at 54 independent hospitals is to be tracked and managed as part of a drive by the UK’s biggest private healthcare provider to improve clinical outcomes and data capture.

Circle Health Group said the move to join forces with My Clinical Outcomes (MCO) would provide teams at hospital and national level with ‘valuable insight into the performance of consultants in every specialty offered across the UK’.

The use of the Patient Recorded Outcomes Measures (PROMS) platform at each of its hospitals is due to begin at scale next month.

Circle said its partner, founded by doctors in 2011, was one of the most comprehensive platforms available and widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading providers in the field of patient outcomes and clinical performance measurement.

The organisation’s technology supports more than 150 hospitals with over 1,000 clinicians and 200,000 patients in the UK.

Mr Peter James

Circle’s group medical director and consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Peter James said: ‘Collecting and analysing outcome data is key to ensuring we continue to meet the needs of the patients we see every day.

‘The partnership with My Clinical Outcomes promises to transform our ability to track, collect and monitor the performance of our hospitals and ultimately help us to continue offering outstanding care to the communities we serve.’

Circle said effective data capture was vital to ensuring the success of a service or treatment pathway and platforms like the one offered by My Clinical Outcomes were increasingly  becoming instrumental to help clinical teams evaluate and inform decision making.

It added: ‘From identifying unwarranted variation in surgical results to automatic data submissions and finally registering group-wide results with registries and regulators, effective management of data and understanding trends in patients is fast becoming key to ensuring the safe operation of a hospital and network.’

MCO boss Tim Williams, said: ‘MCO makes outcomes measurement a routine part of patient care, delivering regulatory compliance and rich, actionable outcomes analytics.

‘We are excited to partner with Circle Health Group as part of their digital transformation to help them continue to ensure and evidence the highest quality care for all their patients.’
