Specialist facial surgery group opens in London

A new, expert-led dedicated oral and maxillofacial centre of excellence is to open in the Harley Street medical area.

The Centre for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a ‘first-ever’ in UK private practice and has eight leading consultant maxillofacial surgeons working together in a custom-made unit.

Mr Luke Cascarini

It is headed by consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon Mr Luke Cascarini and occupies the first floor of the newly relaunched Harley Street Specialist Hospital (HSSH).

He said: ‘We have brought together some of the leading global experts in maxillofacial and oral surgery who are dedicated to providing the highest standards of patient care and access to the latest treatments.

‘We aim to provide world-class professional care, combined with the most advanced technology in the calming surroundings of the Harley Street Specialist Hospital.’

A benefit for patients is that they can be seen from the initial consultation through to diagnostics and treatment in the same building.

‘We have a dedicated clinic room, CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) and operating theatre all on the same floor. Our team includes an oral medicine consultant and reconstructive dentist, so we can treat the whole spectrum of conditions,’ said Mr Cascarini, who is author of the Oxford Handbook of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.

The centre believes it will become London’s leading clinic for conditions affecting the mouth, jaw, face and teeth. The team also has access to on-site 3D printing, which is used for planning complex facial reconstruction and correcting facial deformity.

They chose HSSH, at 18-22 Queen Anne Street, because it is a small boutique-style hospital which they feel offers a much more personal and comforting style for patients.

It is an 11,100 square foot, six-floor hospital building and was acquired in February 2020 by a consortium of orthopaedic and cosmetic surgeons.
