Rutherford opens third cancer unit

HRH The Duke of Gloucester has officially opened the £35m Rutherford Cancer Centre North East, heralding what the owners regard as a significant milestone for advanced cancer care in the region.

The unit, near Bedlington, Northumberland, has opened to meet patient demand in an area with some of the highest incidence of cancer in the UK. 

It offers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy and high-energy proton beam therapy to self-pay and insured patients, as well as those from The Northum­bria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
