Official complaints from patients about consultant care in private practice are continuing to rise year on year, with 59% of complaints including this element in 2017-18.
This compares to 52% the year before and 33% in 2016-17, according to the Independent Healthcare Sector Complaints Adjudication Service (ISCAS).
Its annual report said how complaints are handled remains one of the most frequent concerns raised by patients, although this issue decreased against the previous year.
Gripes about complaints-handling appeared in 64% of cases and administration/information complaints in nearly a quarter of cases.
