At last! NHS private patients units in England have started to adopt the private sector’s complaints code. Sally Taber reports.

Patients in private patient units (PPUs) have occupied an anomalous position when it comes to resolving their complaints.

They have been unable to resort to the Health Service Ombudsman or the independent sector equivalent, the Independent Sector Complaints Adjudication Service (ISCAS).

Patients have been left helpless to resolve their complaints, adrift in an administrative gap. It has been an unacceptable situation.
