Where now for the Independent Doctors Federation? New chief executive Sue Smith sets out her strategy.

Membership organisations can be many things to many people. But, fundamentally, the body should serve a purpose and a need for those who choose to join.

This was the key thought and challenge for the Independent Doc­tors Federation (IDF) as it reviewed its strategy and course for the future earlier this year.

The strategy clearly involves some change for the organisation to survive and thrive, and this can cause both uncertainty and excitement for its members.
