Doctors told to report failings

Zero tolerance of poor standards of safety and care in all independent hospitals and clinics is now vital, according to the Indep­endent Doctors’ Federation (IDF).

While the majority of the 206 private hospitals inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)were providing good or outstanding care, the healthcare watchdog said safety was a concern and 41% of hospitals required improvement, with a further 1% deemed inadequate.

The IDF added that although around half of the hospitals requiring improvement had raised standards since their initial inspection, too many still need to take action.
